A CONCISE REVIEW OF THE ESSENTIAL SKILLS OF VENTILATION MANAGEMENT
As communities across the world are facing or preparing for increasing numbers of patients in respiratory distress from COVID-19, MedCram has packaged this video series for clinicians and hospitals on the frontlines.
We understand that medical professionals (and students) that don't have significant experience with mechanical ventilation may be called upon to help ventilator management teams in critical care settings. And clinicians with extensive ventilator experience may want a refresher or a tool to aid in teaching mechanical ventilation strategies to other clinicians.
This video series is a collection of previously recorded MedCram videos on mechanical ventilation with the addition of some COVID-19 specific videos.

The COVID-19 Ventilator Course: Learn or Review Mechanical Ventilation is a course designed to clarify, review, and augment the training and understanding of primary care clinicians in the use of mechanical ventilation, especially as it pertains to COVID-19. The modules included in this course take a departure from the traditional slide presentation style lecture. Instead, the course is comprised of a series of video lectures aided by real-time instructor-led chalkboard visuals. This method of learning allows for the subject matter to be broken down to the basics and is designed to increase learning and retention.
Mechanical ventilation is a critical life-support treatment for patients in respiratory distress; however, many clinicians lack training, understanding, and skill in the use of mechanical ventilators. Clinicians need to be able to understand the modes of mechanical ventilation and how to communicate their goals for the mechanically ventilated patient. This CME course will utilize a combination of videos and systematic discussion of clinical scenarios and practice cases to effectively deliver the course content.
As a result of this educational activity, participants should be better able to:
- Follow a step-by-step approach to ventilate and oxygenate ICU patients with respect to patient physiology and pathophysiology.
- Use the appropriate ventilation mode for a patient with regards to that patient's pathophysiology and the limiting factors of that patient's condition.
- Explain the heart-lung interaction with regards to positive pressure ventilation.
- Summarize the significance of intrinsic PEEP and dynamic hyperinflation
Post-Test and Evaluation:
After completing the CME activity, you must successfully complete a post-test and fill out a program evaluation form. You will then be able to view and print your CME certificate.
