Course Overview

Mechanical Ventilation Pearls Explained Clearly is an advanced course meant to build upon the skills learned in the Mechanical Ventilation Explained Clearly course. The modules included in this course take a departure from the traditional slide presentation style lecture. Instead, the course is comprised of a series of video lectures aided by real-time instructor-led chalkboard visuals. This method of learning allows for the subject matter to be broken down to the basics and is designed to increase learning and retention.

Mechanical ventilation is a complicated yet necessary intervention for many critical care patients; however, many clinicians lack a clear understanding of the intricacies of mechanical ventilationThis advanced course aims to clarify several key concepts and potential pitfalls of mechanical ventilation. This CME course will utilize a combination of videos, quizzes, and systematic discussion of clinical scenarios and practice cases to effectively deliver the course content.

Course Objectives:

As a result of this educational activity, participants should be better able to:

  • Describe the heart-lung interaction with regards to positive pressure ventilation.
  • Describe the significance of intrinsic PEEP and dynamic hyperinflation in patients with obstructive lung disease and how to treat it.
  • Describe when to use CPAP versus BIPAP and which settings to initially choose.

Post-Test and Evaluation:

After completing the CME activity, you must successfully complete a post-test and fill out a program evaluation form. You will then be able to view and print your CME certificate.
