Pneumothorax and Chest Tube Explained Clearly

MANAGE PNEUMOTHORACES AND CHEST TUBES WITH CONFIDENCE

A pneumothorax is a critical condition that requires prompt diagnosis and intervention. Chest tube insertion is a life-saving procedure that every clinician should understand.

Unfortunately, many healthcare professionals—including physicians, PAs, NPs, and RTs—struggle with the complexities of pneumothorax management and chest tube placement. Proper technique and decision-making are essential but often under-taught.

Join renowned professor Roger Seheult, MD as he concisely explains the key components of the diagnosis, imaging, and treatment of a pneumothorax and chest tube management.

Course Overview

Pneumothorax and Chest Tube Explained Clearly is a course designed to clarify, review, and augment the training and understanding of primary care clinicians in their understanding of pneumothorax and chest tube management. The module included in this course takes a departure from the traditional slide presentation style lecture. Instead, the course is comprised of a video lecture aided by real-time instructor-led chalkboard visuals. This method of learning allows for the subject matter to be broken down to the basics and is designed to increase learning and retention.

Pneumothorax and Chest Tube Explained Clearly covers primary and secondary spontaneous pneumothoraces and non-spontaneous pneumothoraces along with the diagnosis, including the utilization of ultrasound for diagnosis, and treatment. It also will instruct how to properly manage a chest tube container setup.

This CME course will utilize a combination of video and systematic discussion of clinical scenarios and practice cases to effectively deliver the course content.

Course Objectives:

As a result of this educational activity, participants should be better able to:

  • Identify the criteria for observation of primary and secondary spontaneous pneumothoraces without a chest tube.
  • Recognize lung sliding and no lung sliding on an ultrasound.
  • Utilize a 3-container suction chest tube system and describe the difference between an air leak and suction being applied to the system.

Post-Test and Evaluation:

After completing the CME activity, you must successfully complete a post-test and fill out a program evaluation form. You will then be able to view and print your CME certificate.

I found the course incredibly insightful and comprehensive. It thoroughly covered key aspects of diagnosing and managing the various types of pneumothorax. I appreciated the in-depth discussion and examples of imaging techniques and treatment strategies. It provided a clear and practical guide on how to manage the modern 3-container suction chest tube system. I highly recommend it to anyone looking to enhance their clinical skills in this area.
